7 Steps to Customer Loyalty

It's often been said that it's easier to keep existing customers than it is to find new ones. Of all the "tasks" you perform in your business, cultivating customer loyalty is probably one of the most important.

Here are seven ways to keep your customers happy and faithful:

  1. Always say Thank You! This can be done in person, over the phone, through an e-mail, or perhaps just a written note on an invoice.
  2. Follow-up to be sure you're doing a good job or the product is working satisfactorily. Customers will rarely tell you if they're unhappy or experiencing problems. It's up to you to take the first step.
  3. Offer a guarantee. When you stand behind your products or services, your customers will know that you mean what you say.
  4. Spoil your customers. This means to go over and above the "call of duty." Give them more than they expect. Don't put a dollar sign on everything you do.
  5. Keep in contact. Send out a regular newsletter, special occasion cards, reminders of special sales and events, etc. Let your clients and customers know you haven't forgotten them.
  6. Treat them with respect. Always remember, no matter what the circumstances, your customers are human beings too.
  7. Display integrity in all your business dealings.
