Did you know that an outstanding way to get
the word out about your business is through public speaking?
Even though the mere mention of
getting up in front of others can bring on a mild (severe?)
panic attack for some, talking about your business to a group
of people can be very rewarding ... both personally and financially.
It can:
Improve your self-confidence.
Present you as an authority in your field.
Enhance your reputation.
Increase your business!
"But what would I talk about?" This
is the first question that pops into everyone's mind. A simple
answer is to talk about what you do. You may be surprised
to discover that people have only a general idea of your profession.
They don't really know the actions you take in your day-to-day
operations.
For example, many of you know I'm
a copywriter. But do you know exactly what copywriters do?
It's pretty safe to assume that I write, but what makes copywriting
different than writing a book? Or a report? How do I get from
Point A to Point B?
You may know people who say they're
a business coach. What's a business coach? Is it like a football
coach? They tell you they will help balance your life. How
do they make this happen? How long does it take?
You see, each of us has something
that we can talk about. Even though you may think what you
do is mundane and uninteresting, there are others who would
find it totally fascinating.
But, you say, I can't get up in
front of hundreds of people and give a speech. No, maybe not.
But how about 20 or 30 people? You'll find that in nearly
every community, there are civic and business groups that
are always on the lookout for speakers. They don't require
professionals (they can't afford them). They're just looking
for people like you to share information with their members.
As you already know (because I've
told you many times in the past) -- the growth of your business
directly correlates to the amount of marketing you do. Public
speaking is just one more way to get the word out about who you are and what you do. Let yourself be
heard.
