" You May Own Your Business But
Do You OWN Your Business?"
Webster's New World Thesaurus gives these synonyms
for the word own -- "to possess, have title
to, control, be master of." Interestingly, it also includes
the word "enjoy" as a synonym.
In the climate of the Internet, people everyday
are setting up their own "businesses." Many of these
'owners' are merely people looking for a quick buck -- a way
to supplement their 'regular' income. Others actually believe
they're going to become overnight millionaires.
They spend a few hours on the weekend sending
out email messages enticing us to contact them. They offer
all sorts of 'must-have' products. Or they tell us about how
to save bundles of money on home mortgages, insurance, office
equipment, health supplements, etc., etc. Others actually
take the added step and set up a website, but if you look
closely, all that's there are links to affiliate sites.
There's a big difference in these 'owners' and
the people who have invested their heart and soul into establishing
a legitimate business.
People who ...
Take an active interest in their business
Are constantly looking for ways to better serve their customers
Are interested in providing quality products and primo service
Believe in letting others know about their products and
services through ongoing marketing
Have a policy in place to handle dissatisfied customers
Provide a means to contact them (address, phone,
email) ...
These are the people who own their
business. These are the people who don't merely possess or
hold the title to a business. They enjoy their business.
And these are the people who will be around for years to come.
