I have a friend who is in
real estate (in fact, she helped me buy my home). She's a lovely lady, but more than that, she's
a M-A-R-K-E-T-E-R!
I have never known anyone
who takes marketing so seriously. But she doesn't shove
it down my throat. She very subtly (and regularly) reminds
me of her presence through a variety of activities. For
example:
Routinely she telephones me to see how
I'm doing. Naturally, she's checking to see if my life
circumstances have changed and whether I might be considering
a move. But this doesn't come across in the conversation.
She makes me feel that she has a genuine interest in me.
About once every couple of months, she
sends out a letter -- not about real estate, but about
things that might be of interest to her clients. In
one letter, she wrote about the raise in postal rates
and included five three-cent stamps! Another
time, she sent a note about how to stop receiving unsolicited
(junk) mail and even included a stamped postcard that could be sent to the Mail Preference Service for
removal of one's address from their files.
Recently, she went to Ireland for a
visit -- and sent a postcard to say Hi.
On more than one occasion, she has invited
me to lunch -- her treat.
When my Sheltie died a couple of
years ago, she sent a sympathy card.
Every year, I get a lovely scenic calendar
from her.
Now you tell me. Am I going
to hire anyone else if/when I get ready to buy another home?
And who am I going to recommend if someone asks me for a
reference to a good real estate agent?
There's a lesson to be learned
here. I'll leave it up to you to ferret it out.
